Aerice expands consultancy portfolio into fund solutions

London-based management consultancy Aerice is expanding its financial services portfolio with the launch of a new Fund Solutions Division, headed up by recently appointed Partner for Fund Services Kevin Openshaw (pictured).

Reflecting its track record for delivering complex business and IT change programmes, Aerice’s new Fund Solutions practice is specialising in business transformation, covering operational, technology and regulatory-driven change within life and pensions companies, asset and investment managers, platform providers, and third party administrators. This is predominantly driven by the need to support the new world of defined contribution pensions, regulatory changes such as Solvency II, acquisition and merger activity, as well as organisations deciding to outsource key parts of their investment operation functions to third party administrators.
The decision to move into the Fund Solutions sector represents a natural progression for Aerice, as co-founder and director Stuart Owers explains: “We have been steadily expanding our portfolio, with recent successful engagements spanning the investment management and banking sectors, as well as retail banking, insurance and fund accounting, alongside regulatory and compliance projects.  However, we have also identified some key opportunities in the Fund Solutions area, and after working with Kevin on a number of high profile projects, felt that it would be a perfect fit to set up a dedicated division under his leadership. Kevin has a wealth of experience, accompanied by his relentless drive to deliver value to clients in this sector.
“As an organisation, Aerice is differentiated in the marketplace by our business ethic, which is all about combining tangible project delivery with developing long-term relationships, working with absolute integrity from start to finish. Key to our consultancy approach is agreeing an exit strategy with our clients from the outset, establishing agreed deliverables and ensuring long-term sustainability via an enduring project legacy. Kevin’s approach to helping organisations through change, and his unrivalled expertise and personality are a great match for Aerice, based on his professionalism, can-do attitude and absolute commitment to achieving a successful project outcome.  We are very excited to welcome him to our team, and look forward rapidly to making our mark in the DC fund solutions and investment operational transformation space.”
Openshaw joins Aerice from the Milestone Group, where he was Head of Life, Pensions and Platforms, responsible for conceiving and managing the investment solution strategy across Milestone’s EMEA Life, Pension and Platform activity. His extensive career in financial services spans more than 25 years, including posts at FriendsLife and AXA Wealth as Head of Investment Operations, as well as DST International and Skandia Group.
Openshaw is supported by an expert team of consultants, providing an extensive pool of skills. Under his direction, the Aerice Fund Solutions team will be looking to provide support to software houses and investment platform providers such as life companies, fund managers and pension solution providers, as they manage the transformation from defined benefit to defined contribution pensions. A key role will involve helping to shape and deliver the appropriate investment platforms, ensuring that the fund solution administration is capable of meeting employees’ requirements for pre- and post-retirement outcomes, in a cost-effective and scalable way.  Aerice’s expertise will be deployed to assist life companies and asset managers with the complex decision-making and execution involved in the business transformation process – including outsourcing investment administration or changes resulting from merger and acquisition activity.
