ETFGI reports that assets invested in ETFs/ETPs listed in Europe reached a new record high of USD533.34 billion at the end of April 2016.
Record levels of assets were also reached at the end of April for ETFs/ETPs listed in Canada which reached USD77.42 billion, in the United States USD2.217 trillion, in Japan USD145.93 billion, in Asia Pacific ex-Japan USD125.21 billion, and for ETFs/ETPs listed globally which reached USD3.317 trillion.
At the end of April 2016, the European ETF/ETP industry had 2,197 ETFs/ETPs, with 6,910 listings, assets of USD533.4 billion, from 52 providers listed on 25 exchanges in 21 countries.
“Following a strong market performance in March the S+P 500 index was up just 0.39 per cent in April. Developed markets ex-US were up 3.20 per cent, while emerging markets ended up 1.05 per cent. The S+P GSCI commodity index was up 10.14 per cent in April. There is still a significant amount of uncertainty in the markets due to the upcoming Brexit vote, the US election, the efficacy and future of QE programs around the world," says Deborah Fuhr, managing partner at ETFGI.
In April 2016, ETFs/ETPs listed in Europe gathered net inflows of USD3.13 billion which marks the 19th consecutive month of net inflows. Fixed income ETFs/ETPs gathered the largest net inflows with USD4.16 billion, followed by commodity ETFs/ETPs with USD901 million, while equity ETFs/ETPs experienced net outflows of USD2.08 billion.
YTD through end of April 2016, ETFs/ETPs have seen net inflows of USD13.39 billion. A YTD record level of net new assets has been gathered by Commodity ETFs/ETPs with USD5.32 billion.
iShares gathered the largest net ETF/ETP inflows in April with USD3.17 billion, followed by ETF Securities with USD482 million and UBS ETFs with USD463 million in net inflows.
