Aquila Capital and Alpha Centauri in alternative beta launch

RELATED TOPICS

Aquila Capital is to launch an alternative beta strategy in cooperation with Alpha Centauri, bringing the Hamburg-based specialist investment boutique, which offers liquid alternative risk premia and equity factor strategies, to Aquila's Associated Manager Group platform.

The new alternative beta strategy is a liquid alternative to traditional bond investments for institutional investors and offers market neutral access to alternative risk premia across several asset classes such as equities, fixed income, interest rates and FX. The firm writes that Alpha Centauri will apply a disciplined research process to identify hundreds of the most attractive risk factors while maintaining strong diversification.

The plan is to make the strategy available for investment through a UCITS fund and other investment vehicles.

It is anticipated that the strategy will be highly attractive to institutional investors, who are increasingly seeking alternative investment solutions in low-interest, volatile market environment. Liquid alternative risk premia, which typically have a low correlation to traditional asset classes, are growing in importance in their asset allocations.

Besides offering clear diversification benefits, the typical drawdowns of alternative risk premia tend to be significantly lower and they have swifter recovery phases than traditional asset classes.

Manfred Schraepler, Head of Financial Assets & Liquid Private Markets, says: “Alpha Centauri is an established alternative investment specialist with a long and proven track record of providing institutional investors with access to factor-based investment opportunities. This new strategy is an attractive proposition for institutional investors seeking alternative investment solutions in order to meet their investment objectives.”

Ulf Füllgraf (pictured), Managing Director at Alpha Centauri, comments: “We are delighted to partner up with Aquila Capital, who have a long track record in alternative investment solutions, as demonstrated by their numerous industry awards. Together with Aquila Capital, we will make liquid alternative risk-premia solutions more accessible to institutional investors and build on the success we achieved with the iSTOXX Europe factor indices that we launched in collaboration with STOXX in April 2016.”
