Voya Investment Management has appointed Joseph M Labella as retirement strategist, based in New York.

He reports to Paula Smith, senior vice president and head of retirement and college savings strategies.

The new position within investment management was created in response to the growing needs faced by financial advisers to help them better address their clients' retirement planning issues and those seeking a unique strategic and consultative resource.

"According to GDC Research and Practical Perspectives, 75 per cent of advisors report that retirement clients make up more than half of their business," says Smith. "Given that retirement advice is such a critical need, the unprecedented challenges advisors face and our commitment to professional development around this issue, we wanted to provide advisors with a resource who can offer investment guidance as well as portfolio evaluation and analysis."

Labella has over 20 years of financial services experience — having worked most recently as a consultant for Markola, helping high-net-worth and institutional clients construct asset allocation strategies with an emphasis on alternative investments. Prior to that, he had roles at UBS Wealth Management and was director of investments at 3 Dimensional Wealth Advisory.

"Voya Investment Management is focused on helping clients invest for their retirement," says Smith. "Joe's passion and expertise will be a great resource to financial advisers looking for support to meet the retirement demands of their clients."
