ETF data provider ETFGI reported assets invested in ETFs/ETPs listed globally reached a new record high of USD3.343 trillion at the end of July 2016.
Net flows gathered by ETFs/ETPs in July were strong with USD52.68 billion of net new assets gathered during the month marking the 30th consecutive month of net inflows.
Record levels of assets were also reached at the end of July for ETFs/ETPs listed in the United States at USD2.367 trillion, in Europe at USD539.16 billion, in Japan at USD191.82 billion and in Canada which reached USD81.19 billion.
At the end of July 2016, the Global ETF/ETP industry had 6,476 ETFs/ETPs, with 12,342 listings, assets of USD3.343 trillion, from 285 providers listed on 65 exchanges in 53 countries.
“Investor confidence returned during July after the surprising result of June’s Brexit vote. The S&P 500 was up 3.7 per cent in July. Developed markets outside the US gained 5.1 per cent and emerging markets were up 4.8 per cent,." says Deborah Fuhr, managing partner at ETFGI.
In July 2016, ETFs/ETPs listed globally gathered net inflows of USD52.60 billion. Equity ETFs/ETPs gathered the largest net inflows with USD33.36 billion, followed by fixed income ETFs/ETPs with USD13.25 Bn, and commodity ETFs/ETPs with US$5.45 Bn.
YTD through end of July 2016, ETFs/ETPs gathered net inflows of US$175.32 Bn which is below the record level of US$199.06 billion gathered at this point in 2015. YTD, fixed income ETFs/ETPs have gathered a record level and the largest net inflows with USD80.89 billion, followed by equity ETFs/ETPs with USD48.43 billion, and commodity ETFs/ETPs which have gathered a record level of USD31.99 billion net inflows.
iShares gathered the largest net ETF/ETP inflows in July with USD23.45 billion, followed by SPDR ETFs with USD14.34 billion and Vanguard with USD7.17 billion net inflows.
YTD, iShares gathered the largest net ETF/ETP inflows with USD63.97 billion, followed by Vanguard with USD49.46 billion and SPDR ETFs with USD17.67 billion net inflows.
