Independently owned family office Stonehage Fleming has appointed Ian Harvey as business development director within the firm’s investment management division.
With over 30 years of industry experience, Harvey joins Stonehage Fleming Investment Management (SFIM) from Neptune Investment Management where he led the development of Neptune’s UK and European institutional business.
Prior to this he headed up LV Asset Management’s institutional sales and also spent seven years in a similar capacity at BNY Mellon.
From 1995 to 1998 Harvey worked for Fleming Asset Management, a division of Stonehage Fleming’s predecessor company Robert Fleming & Co.
At SFIM, Harvey will be tasked with taking the global equity strategy, including the top quartile Global Best Ideas Equity Fund, to institutional clients and consultants and certain international jurisdictions, including Switzerland.
He will report jointly to Gerrit Smit, partner and head of equity management, and Guy Hudson, partner and head of marketing. He will be based in the firm’s London office.
Hudson says: “We are pleased to welcome Ian to Stonehage Fleming. This marks a significant commitment to the distribution of our signature equity capability into a new channel, and demonstrates our confidence in a strategy where we are already entrusted with over GBP1.4 billion. The fact that we have attracted someone of Ian’s calibre and experience further emphasises the strategy’s potential and appeal. The experience and skills Ian has gained throughout his career will neatly complement our established business development activities.”
Harvey says: “Having enjoyed my time at Fleming Asset Management in the 1990s, I am pleased to be joining the team at Stonehage Fleming. The success that Gerrit, his team, and their investors have had since the global equity strategy was launched in July 2009 shows that excellent investment can thrive outside the major fund management houses and I am looking forward to making the strategy and fund available to new clients.”
