State Street Global Advisors (SSGA) has appointed Malcolm Smith to the newly created role of global SPDR chief operating officer.
He will be based in London and report to Rory Tobin, co-head of the global SPDR business.
Smith (pictured), a 30-year industry veteran will be responsible for leading, managing and developing all aspects of the operating infrastructure for the global SPDR ETF business.
Prior to joining State Street Global Advisors, Smith was interim global COO in the global investments and solutions division at Barclays Wealth and Investment Management.
Smith served in previous roles as global COO for M&G Real Estate and European COO of Barclays Global Investors, where he played a leading role in establishing and managing the European iShares business.
Smith spent the early part of his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers as principal and head of the investment management consultancy practice for the investment management sector.
