Ravenscroft appoints head of investment management in the UK

Mark Harries has joined stockbroking and investment management firm Ravenscroft as head of investment management in the UK.

Harries (pictured) will work for Vartan Ravenscroft, the Peterborough-based stockbroker and investment manager, which is part of Guernsey-headquartered Ravenscroft.

He will have responsibility for growing the firm’s presence in the UK as it prepares to launch an onshore version of Ravenscroft’s range of funds.

“Ravenscroft prides itself on offering first class advisory, execution and discretionary services, which include managed funds and a discretionary portfolio management service. My new role will see me directly involved in research, portfolio management and also seeking strategic partners in the UK to help us develop and grow our UK operations,” says Harries.

One of Ravenscroft’s non-executive directors and largest shareholder is Hargreaves Lansdown founder Stephen Lansdown, who last year trebled his shareholding in the Channel Islands’ only independent stockbroking and investment management company.

Lansdown says Harries has joined Ravenscroft at an exciting time for the business, as its geographical reach expands into the UK and assets under management approach GBP2.5 billion.

“Mark has extensive experience of the wealth management industry from his previous posts at Cazenove Capital Management, Scottish Widows Investment Partnership and, most recently, as head of manager selection at Aberdeen Asset Management. His expertise in this area will be invaluable to the group as we look to grow our brand and business in the UK. We are very pleased to welcome Mark and feel that his entrepreneurial mind-set will fit well with the existing team,” says Lansdown.

Harries has more than 30 years’ investment experience in global asset management and international private banking, having set up a number of businesses, raising significant assets and delivering excellent performance. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (FSCI) and a Member of the Institute of Financial Services (ACIB) and has passed the Securities Industry Diploma and the Institute of Bankers exams.
