Edison to participate in the Deutsche Börse’s new SME segment

RELATED TOPICS

Edison Investment Research has been selected to be a global research provider of non-rated equity research in Deutsche Börse’s new small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) segment.

Launching on 1 March 2017, the new segment replaces the Frankfurt Stock Exchange’s Entry Standard and aims to facilitate access to growth capital for SME enterprises.

Edison’s participation in the Deutsche Börse scheme marks the fourth stock exchange globally for which the firm has been selected to provide in-depth equity research. This follows the NZX research scheme, the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange scheme for dual-listed tech and med-tech companies, in association with NASDAQ, and the Singapore Exchange newly launched SGX StockFacts Research Program.

Stock exchanges worldwide are increasingly recognising that to best support the companies that list with them, high-quality, in-depth equity research is needed to ensure investors are able to make informed decisions about investing in these stocks. Exchanges also recognise that trading volumes are increasingly generated not just by institutional investors, but also by the private wealth and retail investor communities, which lack access to reliable data and high-quality research. As a result, exchanges are directing more attention to providing research as they compete with each other to become attractive listing venues.

The distribution of high-quality equity research is an important way to promote the proper pricing of listed companies. This analysis helps examine the information released by issuers and assists in establishing a context for businesses within their local and global investor marketplace.

With over 80 analysts organised by sector expertise, Edison researches over 400 companies worldwide, making it one of the world's largest investment research firms. Its research is sent out via its extensive distribution platform and affiliated networks, and is available on professional and internet information platforms worldwide.

Klaus Schinkel (pictured), director and head of German operations at Edison Investment Research, says: "We have long advocated that exchanges have a pivotal role in facilitating research coverage for issuers, and are delighted to be chosen as a partner of Deutsche Börse for the envisaged research scheme. Having worked with Deutsche Börse on the Deutsches Eigenkapitalforum and its Venture Network, we are looking forward to supporting this important market reform.

“With the impending regulatory changes already having a significant impact on the traditional sell-side’s ability to provide research for a large number of companies, we believe that exchange-organised schemes will become a prominent feature in the provision of equity research. Edison will use its global expertise to raise the profile and understanding of companies listed on the new segment with German and international investors."
