Lipper figures show European ETF assets at an all time high

Detlef Glow, (pictured) Head of EMEA research at Thomson Reuters Lipper reports that assets under management in European ETFs hit a new all-time high of EUR514.5 billion in 2016.

Bond ETFs (+EUR19.1 billion) were the asset type with the highest net inflows in the European ETF industry over the course of 2016 and equity US (EUR82.1 billion) was the peer group with the highest assets under management at the end of December 2016.

The best-selling Lipper global classification over the course of 2016 was Equity US (+EUR8.7 billion), followed by Equity Global (+EUR6.5 billion) and Bond EUR Corporates (+EUR5.5 billion). iShares, with net sales of EUR26.6 billion, was the best-selling ETF promoter in Europe over the course of 2016, followed by Vanguard Group (+EUR4.3 billion) and SPDR (State Street) (+EUR4.2 billion).

The ten best-selling funds gathered total net inflows of EUR19.7 billion for 2016. iShares Core S&P 500 UCITS ETF USD (Acc) was the largest (EUR18.3 billion in assets under management) and best-selling (+EUR4.11 billion) individual ETF for 2016.
