BTIG expands transition management and global portfolio and ETF trading group

BTIG has appointed Filip Skala to lead the firm’s transition management team as managing director and head of transition management.

It has also hired John Curley to focus on strengthening and expanding global portfolio and ETF trading client relationships as director of global portfolio and ETF trading sales.
Both executives will report to Thomas Smykowski (pictured), managing director and head of global portfolio and ETF trading at BTIG.
“Fil and John are both well-versed in our suite of products and services, and they have demonstrated their ability to connect with institutional investors to identify valuable client solutions,” says Smykowski. “Their deep product knowledge and client-first mindset will make a positive impact on the way we seamlessly deliver transitions and portfolio and ETF executions.”
Prior to BTIG, Skala was a managing director and head of US portfolio solutions at Cantor Fitzgerald. Previously, he was executive director and head of US transition management implementation at JP Morgan, a role he also held at Bear Stearns. Earlier in his career, Skala held a variety of transition management, plans sponsor sales and defined contribution roles at BNY Brokerage, Morgan Stanley and Merrill Lynch.
Curley joins BTIG from Deutsche Bank, where he was a director of global programme trading. Previously, he was an executive director of global portfolio trading at JP Morgan. Earlier in his career, Curley was a managing director and principal of global portfolio trading at Bear Stearns. He began his career within portfolio trading at Instinet.
“With more than 15 years of experience each, Fil and John are uniquely qualified to service the needs of clients,” says Anton LeRoy, chief operating officer of BTIG. “Notably, their sales and trading coverage expertise including originating new relationships and further enriching existing ones, will be critical as we continue to grow our offering.”
