Snowden Lane Partners expands into San Antonio

Snowden Lane Partners, an independent, adviser-owned, wealth advisory firm, has added a strategic management group in San Antonio, Texas, which will be the firm’s ninth location in the US.

Leading the new team is former Merrill Lynch senior vice president, Larry Barocas.

Barocas joins Snowden Lane as senior partner and managing director and is accompanied by vice president and senior investment analyst, Debbie Ury, who worked with Barocas at Merrill Lynch as vice president and analyst/relationship manager.

“Seldom does any organisation get to be in the fortunate position of calling someone with Larry’s sterling qualifications and reputation a teammate,” says Greg Franks (pictured), managing partner and president of Snowden Lane. “This is an extraordinary moment for Snowden Lane Partners and positions our team in a critical market for the firm’s future. To say that Larry is going to be an indispensable asset is truly an understatement.”

Barocas’ career spans global economics, the legal field and the investment advisory industry. He has been a financial adviser since 1998 and joined Merrill Lynch in 2009.

Prior to that, he was a tax attorney at several firms, specialising in mergers and acquisitions and cross border transactions. In 1995, he successfully argued a pro bono case before the United States Supreme Court. He was also a senior economic advisor to the United Nations Economic Development Programme, and chaired the New York City Independent Judicial Screening Panel.

Barocas has been a member of the American Bar Association Committee on the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, a board member Ex-Officio of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, and a board member of the Hispanic National Bar Association.

Barocas works primarily with high net worth individuals, non-profits and provides family office services.

Ury, a Chicago native, started her career with Merrill Lynch in 1981. She worked for the firm in St Croix as a financial adviser for six years before returning to the continental US and eventually partnering with Barocas. Ury’s primary focus is on bespoke, long-term financial planning.

“It’s truly a privilege to be a part of a robust partnership that puts client interests first,” says Barocas. “This is an opportune time for us to harness the power of this innovative partnership for the benefit of our clients. We plan on bringing expertise and energy to Snowden Lane.”

“The strategic management group represents a key move for Snowden Lane as we continue to expand our national footprint with seasoned talent that makes our independent model as strong as it’s become,” says CEO and managing partner, Rob Mooney. “We’ll add more advisers in San Antonio and Larry’s team represents another step forward as we continue to execute on our plans for 2017 and beyond.”
