Berenberg hires CIO and head of small and mid cap team

Matthias Born has joined Berenberg as chief investment officer equities while Peter Kraus is taking over the small and mid cap team at Berenberg Wealth and Asset Management.

Both are joining the firm from Allianz Global Investors (AGI).
“We want to continue growing in wealth and asset management and will further add our strengths as announced with top-class experts,” says Henning Gebhardt, head of wealth and asset management.
Gebhardt joined Berenberg from Deutsche Asset Management at the beginning of this year.
“With Matthias Born and Peter Kraus we are delighted to welcome two very renowned investment experts for our growth story, who have a unique expertise in German and European stocks. We will continue to expand our product range with their know-how,” he says.
Born (42) started his career in 2001 at Allianz Global Investors’ team for European second-tier stocks, where he first managed a fund for German growth stocks as well as portfolios for European second-tier stocks. Since 2007 he has been successfully managing Concentra, a classic among German equity funds. He has had his biggest success since 2009 as co-head of the team for European growth stocks at AGI. He oversaw one of the most successful teams for European equities and was responsible for client deposits totalling a clearly double-digit billion amount.
Kraus (41) started as an analyst for European second-tier stocks before he joined AGI in 2006 as a fund manager for European small and mid caps. He made a significant contribution to the success of AGI’s team for second-tier stocks. He was responsible for the management of various European small and mid cap funds as well as for the acquisition and management of important international institutional mandates.
“Matthias Born is well-known for his long-term investment horizon, his very active approach apart from benchmarks, without losing sight of the risks. Peter Kraus has been successfully proving his stock-picking abilities throughout his career, especially with European micro cap products. He makes long-term investments in hidden champions and companies with a high growth potential,” says Gebhardt.
