Global X names ETF industry veteran as CIO

Global X Management Company (Global X), a New York-based provider of exchange-traded funds (ETFs), has appointed Jon Maier as Chief Investment Officer (CIO).

In his new role, Maier will focus on shaping the firm’s market outlook, helping build model portfolios, developing ETF products and crafting the firm’s investment strategy. Maier reports directly to Bruno del Ama, Global X’s CEO.
Maier joins Global X from Merrill Lynch Wealth Management, where he was the Senior Portfolio Manager for their ETF Model Portfolio business within their CIO Office. As a member of Merrill Lynch’s CIO Portfolio Construction & Management Team, he had responsibility for many portfolios including multi-asset and single asset strategies during his long tenure at the firm.
“Over the past year, following the minority investment from JP Morgan in Global X, we have doubled our sales team, invested heavily in our marketing efforts, and expanded our product lineup,” says Bruno del Ama, CEO of Global X Funds. “Jon brings tremendous experience to the executive team and introduces a new capability to the firm in helping design and manage model portfolios.”
“I am thrilled to bring my skills and experience to Global X’s impressive team. I was in a unique position to evaluate all ETF providers in the industry, and truly see something special happening at Global X. I look forward to being a part of the exciting work going on at Global X and aiding in the firm’s future growth as we strengthen our position in the ETF marketplace and continue to bring innovative products to the market,” Maier says.
