ETF data provider ETFGI reports assets invested in smart beta equity ETFs/ETPs listed globally reached a new record of USD607 billion at the end of July 2017.
Record levels of assets were reached at the end of July for equity smart beta ETFs/ETPs listed globally with USD607.17 billion, in the United States USD538.62 billion, in Europe USD44.84 billion, in Canada USD14.81 billion and in Asia Pacific (ex-Japan) USD5.57 billion.
In July 2017, smart beta equity ETFs/ETPs gathered net inflows of USD6.39 billion. Combining market moves and net inflows, smart beta equity ETF/ETP assets have increased by 17.8 per cent from USD515.22 billion to USD607.17 billion, with a five-year CAGR of 31.9 per cent.
At the end of July 2017, there were 1,264 smart beta equity ETFs/ETPs, with 2,159 listings, assets of USD607 billion, from 154 providers on 40 exchanges in 33 countries.
ETFGI managing partner, Deborah Fuhr (pictured) reports that 89 per cent of smart beta assets are invested in 621 ETFs/ETPs that are domiciled and listed in the United States and 76 per cent of the assets are invested in 499 ETFs/ETPs that provide Smart Beta exposure to the US market.
iShares gathered the largest ‘smart beta’ ETF/ETP net inflows in July with USD1.53 billion, followed by Vanguard with USD1.52 billion and PowerShares with USD0.70 billion net inflows.
Products tracking S&P Dow Jones ‘smart beta’ indices gathered the largest net ETF/ETP inflows in July with USD2.40 billion, followed by CRSP with USD1.26 billion and FTSE Russell with USD0.54 billion net inflows.
