Hawksford has appointed Darren Kelland as global head of private client to lead and further develop the strategic direction of the firm’s private client division.

‘I am delighted to be joining Hawksford and to have the opportunity to lead the global private client division,’ says Kelland. ‘I truly believe that Jersey leads the way in terms of its offering to private clients and their advisers and continues to set the benchmark globally. As wealth continues to be created across the globe, clients become bigger, with more complex requirements. They are looking for us to simplify their lives. Jersey will continue to play a key role in servicing the requirements of these individuals. This provides us with an exciting opportunity to further develop Hawksford’s well established and highly regarded private client offering.’

A Chartered Accountant, Kelland has more than 13 years’ experience working with private clients and family offices.  Before joining Hawksford, Darren was head of private wealth in Jersey at Intertrust (formerly Elian and Ogier FS) having previously held the role of director and head of the family office team, which he established in 2010.  Darren was a key member of the organisation’s risk assessment committee and also led the acquisition and integration of Allied Trust Company during 2014/2015.

‘We are very happy to welcome Darren to Hawksford. He has an incredible amount of experience, both as a director on a number of key client relationships as well as a proven track record as a leader and strategist,’ says Hawksford CEO, Michel van Leeuwen. ‘Under his leadership our private client division will continue to grow and develop, offering the highest levels of service to clients across the globe.’

Kelland will be responsible for a team based across Jersey and Asia. ‘I believe in the importance of mind-set and the importance of instilling confidence and pride in your team – which always results in increased ability and performance. We already have an incredibly strong team, from administrators to directors, both in Jersey and in Asia, a key region where wealth is being created at an unprecedented rate. Our genuine presence, through our local teams in Singapore and Hong Kong, combined with the experience of our trusted professionals from the highly respected jurisdiction of Jersey, will ensure our continued success in the region,’ continued Darren. ‘In addition to focusing on markets such as Asia, we will further develop our family office proposition with the aim of servicing some of the world’s most respected families.’

Kelland, a Fellow Chartered Accountant also holds a Diploma in International Financial Reporting Standards and holds a Professional Service Firm Leader qualification from the University of Cambridge. In 2009 he was recognised as a Top 35 Private Client Practitioner by E-Private Client.
