Jupiter appoints Head of Governance Research

RELATED TOPICS

Jupiter Asset Management has appointed Ash Ray as Head of Governance Research. In this new role, Ray, who has worked in Jupiter’s governance team for 10 years, will report directly to Stephen Pearson, Chief Investment Officer and Chairman of Jupiter’s Stewardship Committee.

Ray will lead a team of governance analysts providing research and guidance on regulatory requirements and best practice, and focusing on Jupiter’s engagement priorities for the fund management teams. He will also broaden the team’s work across all geographies and asset classes, including Japan, India and fixed income, assisting all Jupiter’s fund managers in their role as responsible stewards of client assets.

Jupiter views corporate governance as an integrated part of the investment process. Fund managers lead on this activity, engaging with companies and taking direct responsibility for their voting decisions. In this way, we ensure that our active fund management philosophy is mirrored by an active approach to stewardship.

Edward Bonham Carter, Vice Chairman, will continue to undertake his policy and public engagement work in line with his role as a Board member of the industry’s Investor Forum, and his position both on Jupiter’s Board and Stewardship Committee. Jupiter will also continue to draw on Ian McVeigh’s 20 years’ experience in stewardship, with him remaining a member of the Stewardship Committee.

Stephen Pearson, Chief Investment Officer at Jupiter, says: “We are proud of our standing as a Tier 1 signatory to the UK Stewardship Code. We consider good governance to be an essential component of good investment outcomes for our clients and this is why our fund managers are so directly involved in the process. Ash has become an influential subject matter expert and a leader of the expansion of our governance work across our investment teams. I am delighted to see his contribution recognised in this way.”
