AllianzGI brings consistently outperforming US equity market strategy to UK

Allianz Global Investors is introducing its Allianz Structured Alpha US Equity 250 fund to the UK market.

The launch of Allianz Structured Alpha US Equity 250 means AllianzGI now offers investors in the UK and continental Europe a fund that is invested broadly in the US equity market based on the S&P 500 Index, but which also targets an annual excess return of 2.5 per cent. The fund uses an innovative approach to do this, combining a passive investment in the S&P 500 Index with an actively managed options overlay.
Through buying and selling both call and put options, the options portfolio is in a position to generate additional returns while also hedging the fund against extreme events. The fund is managed by the team headed by Greg Tournant, CIO US Structured Products. This team has many years’ experience in the management of option-based strategies (Structured Alpha), which obtain positive returns regardless of the market situation.
Adam Gent, Head of Retail/Wholesale for Northern Europe at AllianzGI, says: “The benefits of Allianz Structured Alpha US Equity 250 are obvious. It offers broad exposure to the US equity market, combined with the opportunity to earn additional returns that are uncorrelated with traditional market returns. Since the strategy was launched in the US, it has outperformed its benchmark in all rolling 5-year periods. This makes the fund, which can be traded on every exchange trading day, an attractive alternative to ETFs. This applies particularly to major investors such as funds-of-funds managers or asset managers who need exposure to the US equity market. The proportion of US equities in a diversified portfolio is too large for investors to miss out on outperformance in this area.”
The strategy underlying Allianz Structured Alpha US Equity 250 has already been managed very successfully in the US for the past 12 years. The team led by Greg Tournant manages client money totalilng around USD 10 billion. As a result, Structured Alpha is a key component in the global range of liquid alternatives offered by AllianzGI.
