Wealth manager Charles Stanley has hired two new members of staff to its business development team, in a move that reflects the firm’s wider business strategy to grow in the professional intermediaries and charities & trusts markets respectively.
Glenn Baker joins as Business Development Director, focusing on professional advisers such as lawyers, accountants and trustees, leaving Kleinwort Hambros where he was a business development director for five years. Robert Winterton joins as a Business Development Executive focusing on the charity sector and Trustees.
Christopher Aldous, Head of Distribution, says: “We’ve seen an encouraging pick-up in new business this year thanks to our talented business development team Charles Stanley’s professional reputation, solid brand and 200-year pedigree resonate in a world where financial planning and investment management is becoming more complex. The high level of individual personal service we offer our private clients makes us stand out in a world which is increasingly standardised. This difference is also valued by the professional advisers and charities we work with so the expertise that Glenn and Robert bring to Charles Stanley will help us to expand our relationships in these important sectors.”
Baker has worked with institutions like Schroders Private Bank, along with Kleinwort Hambros and will develop Charles Stanley’s partnership relationships with professional advisers where the wealth managers’ expertise in financial planning, investment and inheritance tax mitigation is beneficial to their clients.
“Increasingly lawyers, accountants and trustee’s clients are facing complex wealth management issues where the expertise of Charles Stanley, as part of an overall professional team, providing relevant financial and investment solutions is beneficial to them,” says Baker. “My focus will be on taking a relationship-led approach, where I work with them to better understand the wealth management challenges that their clients, the range of whom include private individuals, multi-generational families, as well as entrepreneurs and business owners, face. By working together, a higher level of advice and service is achieved for each client.”
Winterton joins Charles Stanley from Asset Match where he was head of sales and business development. He brings more than 30 years of experience to the role, having worked with top financial institutions such as Morgan Grenfell, BZW, Banque Paribas and Nordic Investment Bank ABG Sundal Collier where he was a London Partner. Winterton will support Charles Stanley’s bespoke Private Client Investment Management and Charity Asset Management investment propositions, building relationships with Trustees, Consultants and professional intermediaries in the Charity sector.
Robert says: “The expertise of Charles Stanley’s investment managers and the personal service that they offer clients in the Charity sector is attractive compared with what can prove to be a more impersonal service from some large investment institutions where Charities can be considered small accounts. Charles Stanley has expanded its clients and expertise in this space in recent years and understands the unique challenges that they face. In joining the team, I look forward to helping to develop this area of the business further.”
