Amundi reports European ETF assets outperformed US in February

RELATED TOPICS

Amundi has published its report on global ETF market flows for February 2018, revealing a mixed balance sheet for the ETF market.

In Europe, investment flows were positive (at +EUR7.05 billion), whereas globally investors pulled back slightly from the asset class (-EUR1.18 billion ).

Despite a correction early in the month, the European equity ETF market held up well in February, gaining EUR5.2 billion, the firm writes.  Stateside, this asset class suffered EUR12.4 billion of withdrawals. Globally, the equity ETF market ended the month with an overall outflow of EUR4.5 billion. In bonds, strong ETF flows globally (+EUR3.4 billion) were shared amongst the three key investment regions.

Amundi writes that while US investors substantially divested from their local market (-EUR17.9 billion), their European peers continue to increase their exposure to US equities (+EUR2 billion), as well as the Eurozone (+EUR1.9 billion).

A revival of risk aversion has been unfavourable for corporate bond ETFs on both sides of the Atlantic. Flows instead shifted to government bond ETFs in comparable volumes.
