Columbia Threadneedle launches Global Focus Fund

RELATED TOPICS

Columbia Threadneedle Investments has launched the Threadneedle Global Focus Fund, managed by David Dudding. The new fund will be an onshore (OEIC) version of the GBP456 million Threadneedle (Lux) Global Focus Fund, a Luxembourg SICAV.

The Threadneedle Global Focus Fund will follow the same investment approach and process as the Threadneedle (Lux) Global Focus Fund (SICAV), which is also managed by David Dudding (pictured).

Dudding believes that high quality companies make for superior long-term investments. This is because the market under-appreciates the value of competitive advantages, which enable some companies to sustain high returns. These companies are able to reinvest capital at higher rates of return, thereby delivering attractive compound growth to investors. David has a truly global approach to investing in primarily large-cap stocks, selecting the best opportunities from around the world.

Dudding says: “We believe that well governed companies can sustain high returns for longer periods than the market assumes. We look for quality growth companies with high returns on invested capital that can be sustained over time.

“We identify economic moats; how likely companies are to keep competitors at bay for an extended period, and apply Michael Porter’s Five Forces Framework to assess the sustainability of those competitive advantages.

“The advantage of having this global approach is that if we think about a particular industry, we are not limited to own the leading business in a particular region: we can own the leading business in the world.”

Alastair Caw, Head of UK Wholesale, says: “Dave has an excellent long-term track record of investing in leading global companies within both his global and European portfolios. He has access to the insights of nearly 100 equity analysts around the world, including 30 US-based industry specialists, and with his well-defined investment approach, he has delivered outperformance for clients over both the short and longer term. I’m pleased that his global strategy will now be available to our UK-based clients within an OEIC.”

David Dudding is + rated by Citywire. Since he took over the Threadneedle (Lux) Global Focus Fund fund in 2013, he has delivered first quartile performance and earned a four star rating by Morningstar. Dudding continues as co-manager of the Threadneedle European Select Fund.
