US ETF inflows recover in April

ETF data provider, ETFGI, reports that ETFs and ETPs listed in the US gathered USD28.00 billion in net inflows during April 2018, after suffering net outflows of USD10.60 billion in February and USD2.56 billion in March.

Year-to-date net inflows into US listed ETFs/ETPs reached USD93.22 billion at the end of April which is significantly less than the USD169.71 billion compared to this point last year.
 
ETFs and ETPs listed in the US gathered USD28.00 billion net inflows during April 2018, after suffering net outflows in the prior two months. US-listed Fixed Income ETFs/ETPs gathered USD13.74 billion net inflows during April  2018, the largest since October 2014, which saw USD16.87 billion in net outflows.
   
ETFGI reports that in April 2018, 15 new ETFs/ETPs were launched by 12 providers while 59 ETFs/ETPs closed by eight providers. At the end of April 2018, the US ETF industry had 1,879 ETFs, assets of USD3.388 trillion, from 121 providers on three exchanges. At the end of April 2018, the US ETF/ETP industry had 2,136 ETFs/ETPs, assets of USD3.480 trillion, from 140 providers on three exchanges.
 
Overall the assets invested in ETFs/ETPs listed in the US increased by USD38.60 billion during April 2018. The increase of 1.12 per cent, from USD3.441 trillion at the end of March 2018 to USD3.480 trillion at the end of April, also represents the highest monthly growth in assets since January 2018, which saw a monthly increase of 6.38 per cent from USD3.423 trillion to USD3.642 trillion.
 
In April 2018, ETFs/ETPs saw net inflows of USD28.00 billion.  Fixed income ETFs/ETPs gathered the largest net inflows with USD13.74 billion, followed by equity ETFs/ETPs with USD10.12 billion.
 
The majority of these flows can be attributed to the top 20 ETFs by net inflows, which collectively have gathered USD68.82 billion during 2018. The iShares Core MSCI EAFE ETF (IEFA US) on its own accounted for net inflows of USD16.38 billion, ETFGI says.
 
The firm reports that similarly, the top 10 ETPs by net inflows collectively gathered USD8.17 billion during 2018. During April investors chose to move from US Equity ETFs to Fixed Income and Commodities products.
