Arkera, a new AI-powered platform that helps self-directed investors make investment decisions by connecting news content to investment products, has hired Townsend Lansing as Chief Commercial Officer.
Lansing, who has spent a decade in the growing exchange traded fund (ETF) sector, will oversee the deployment of Arkera’s ETF platform for brokers and retail investors in Europe and North America.
Lansing recently served as Head of ETCs at ETF Securities, with a mandate to drive growth of ETF investing products. Across a number of leadership roles, he held direct responsibility over the firm’s ETF offering with combined assets under management (AUM) of USD18 billion, while also playing a leading role in strategic advisory and ETC and ETN platform development before ETF Securities was acquired by US-listed asset manager WisdomTree in November 2017. Prior to ETF Securities Lansing was Vice President of Product Development at Bank of America. He holds a Juris Doctorate degree from Columbia Law School.
Retail and institutional investment in the ETF market continue to grow at a rapid rate. PWC forecast global ETF assets to exceed USD7trn by 2021, with the ETF market in North America expected to grow to USD5.9 trillion by 2021, a 23 per cent cumulative annual growth. The firm also forecast that the European market is expected grow 27 per cent annually – reaching USD1.6 trillion AUM by 2021.
Founded by former head of fixed income and FX sales divisions at Goldman Sachs, Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Deutsche Bank, Vinit Sahni, and former DE Shaw and Citadel senior executive, Nav Gupta, Arkera connects real world events and news directly to investment products using extensive financial expertise and artificial intelligence. The technology helps financial institutions increase revenues by equipping their clients with the knowledge and confidence to make and drive investment decisions.
Vinit Sahni, co-CEO, Arkera, says: “We are very excited to have Townsend on board. He brings a wealth of knowledge in financial products and ETFs, an extensive experience across the wider asset management business, and strong commercial acumen. His appointment takes us one step closer to achieving our mission of giving anyone the best investing experience and to empower exciting investment decisions.”
Townsend Lansing, Chief Commercial Officer, says: “Arkera is tackling a fundamental problem in markets today; how to decipher a complex, jargon-filled investment landscape that leads to decision paralysis among retail investors; while on the other hand, fixing the problem of client engagement brokers face each day. ETFs offer a cost effective, highly liquid investment vehicle that helps bridge the gap. I look forward to working closely with the team to build commercial partnerships as well as a growing community of users empowered to make better informed investment decisions.”
