GSAM launches US smaller cap equity portfolio for European clients

Goldman Sachs Asset Management (GSAM) has launched the Goldman Sachs US Smaller Cap Equity Portfolio which seeks to provide investors with access to undervalued, high quality US smaller cap companies.

It aims to capture the strong compounding growth potential of the successful smaller cap companies that emerge into tomorrow’s large cap leaders.

The long-only portfolio of high conviction US smaller cap stocks will be managed by GSAM’s US Small Cap team who have an average of over 20 years’ experience. The investment team, employing a time-tested philosophy in investing in US smaller caps, builds the portfolio one company at a time by focusing on quality companies which the market may not fully appreciate, and take a diversified approach to manage company-specific risk.

“US smaller caps offer a fertile ground for active management in a relatively under-researched universe. Through our rigorous stock-specific research process, we seek to generate consistent risk-adjusted outperformance across various market environments*,” says Sally Pope Davis, one of three co-lead portfolio managers for the US Small Cap Team, alongside Rob Crystal and Sean Butkus.

The portfolio provides exposure to the strong growth environment in the US, given that smaller companies tend to source the vast majority of revenues domestically.

“With the team’s deep expertise, we believe the smaller cap universe can offer our clients exposure to the potential leaders of tomorrow while diversifying an existing global equity allocation,” adds Nick Phillips, Head of GSAM’s International Retail Client Business. “As we outlined in our Mid-Year Outlook, we believe the more domestically-focused smaller cap universe is particularly well-placed to benefit from the current market environment.”

The Portfolio is a new sub-fund of the UCITS-qualifying Luxembourg-domiciled Goldman Sachs Funds SICAV. The Portfolio is offered to both institutional and retail clients and is registered for sale across a range of European countries.
