River and Mercantile appoints Global Head of Distribution

River and Mercantile Group has appointed David Hanratty as its Global Head of Distribution.

Hanratty takes on this role from James Barham, the Group CEO, who carried it out as part of his previous responsibilities when Deputy Group CEO.
Hanratty will be responsible for the distribution teams across River and Mercantile Group, which encompasses River and Mercantile Asset Management (UK, Global and Emerging Market Equities), River and Mercantile Solutions (Advisory and Fiduciary Management), River and Mercantile Derivatives (LDI and Structured Equity) and the River and Mercantile Macro Division.
Hanratty has over 30 years’ experience in the industry and was previously Managing Director at Pioneer Investments where, amongst a range of roles, he had direct responsibility for global distributors across the business. Prior to this, he was Sales and Marketing Director at Janus’s UK wealth operation.
His appointment follows a record-breaking year of asset growth for the Group, with AUM/NUM climbing to GBP40 billion for the year ending 30 June 2019, with net sales in the final quarter of GBP4 billion.
Hanratty will be based in London and will report directly to CEO James Barham.
Barham says: “I am delighted that David is joining the Group. His appointment is an important hire for our business as we look to step up our distribution resource and momentum and increase the accessibility of our investment strategies to the global marketplace. David’s broad experience enables him to bring new and exciting ideas to the business that will help us grow and develop our distribution strategy across our core markets and to examine opportunities elsewhere.”
Hanratty says: “River and Mercantile has an excellent reputation for delivering solutions that clients truly need and I am delighted to be joining the Group as it continues to grow across its core channels. I have known the business for many years and I have always been impressed by the strength of its underlying investment products and solutions. Leading the distribution teams across the Group and being part of the next stage of its growth and development is an exciting opportunity.”
