Lombard International Assurance, a provider of insurance-based wealth structuring solutions for the high net worth and institutional markets, has appointed Luca Bertacchi to the newly created strategic role of Director, Head of Switzerland and International Markets.

Bertacchi’s role will focus on driving the business’s ambitious growth plans in Switzerland, supporting its multi-disciplinary team of experts across the company’s three hubs in Zurich, Geneva and Lugano.  Lombard International Assurance’s Swiss operation caters to the specific needs of internationally mobile HNW and UHNW individuals, families and institutions who have chosen Switzerland to safeguard their financial assets.

Bertacchi (pictured) joined Lombard International Assurance in 2011 as Country Manager for the Italian market. Having successfully developed the business in Italy, he was promoted to Regional Director for Central & Southern Europe in January 2016 and was responsible for business development activities in Benelux, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal and Turkey.

Axel Hörger, CEO of Lombard International Assurance, says: “Luca is the ideal appointment to this strategically important role, having successfully grown new business across Europe.  Switzerland has built its reputation as the jurisdiction of choice for safeguarding assets. Ongoing global geopolitical uncertainty has seen Switzerland’s unique ecosystem and security attract significant international private capital inflows, and increasing demand for innovative solutions that protect, preserve and pass on wealth.”

Bertacchi says: “This appointment represents an exciting new challenge, and I welcome the opportunity to work closely with my colleagues on the ground in Switzerland and our Swiss partners to deliver best-in-class solutions to our international clients. The Swiss financial services industry has long been a symbol of service excellence and has set the bar high in global private banking and wealth management. At Lombard International Assurance, we share the same approach to wealth, succession and estate planning, and look forward to developing further our partnership with these financial institutions.”

Bertacchi has held a number of senior positions throughout his career, including Head of Sales & Marketing at Pioneer Alternative Investment Management, Head of Sales Swiss Market at Pioneer Investments, Head of Energy Group Milano, Director at Fortis Bank SA/NV, and Senior Vice President of Corporate Origination at UniCredit Banca Mobiliare Spa.
