Somerset Capital Management is to assume responsibility for wealth management group St James’s Place’s Global Emerging Markets fund, with effect from 17 February 2020.The lead manager will be Edward Robertson, a seasoned emerging markets investor and one of the co-founders of Somerset Capital Management.
Tom Beal, Chief Investment Officer, St James’s Place, says: “Somerset Capital Management is a specialist Global Emerging Markets investment management firm with the resources and expertise to help deliver attractive returns for our clients over the medium to long-term.
“The lead manager, Edward Robertson, has nearly 20 years’ of portfolio management experience in emerging markets and a clearly defined investment process and style, aiming to construct a concentrated portfolio of around 40 high quality companies and hold them for the long-term. This disciplined approach is increasingly important in emerging markets given heightened levels of volatility and will be underpinned by the appraisal of four key risks when evaluating investment opportunities – business, financial, valuation and governance.
“The appointment follows an extensive search by our Investment Committee, supported by independent investment consultants, Stamford Associates, and demonstrates our continued commitment to selecting the best fund managers from across the globe. The focus during this process was on selecting a manager who can identify potential opportunities for high returns on capital irrespective of the market environment, a manager that can grow with St James’s Place’s scale to meet clients’ needs, and a requirement for Environmental, Social and Governance criteria to be embedded as part of their investment approach.”
Somerset Capital Management replaces Janus Henderson Investors as managers of the SJP Global Emerging Markets fund.
