Barclays Wealth Management & Investments is partnering with EOS at Federated Hermes, a specialist stewardship services provider.

EOS’s engagement activities enable investors to be more active owners of their assets, through dialogue with companies on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) issues.

As part of the stewardship service, EOS will provide voting recommendations on the holdings within Barclays’ funds – with this engagement based, credible ESG information helping the bank’s fund managers to make effective investment decisions.

Ian Aylward, Head of Fund Selection at Barclays Wealth, comments: “Partnering with EOS at Federated Hermes is an important step in the sustainability of our business and our clients’ portfolios. We believe that appropriate management of environmental and social impacts, and good corporate governance, are key to successful investing. By exercising our voting rights and taking a seat at the table, we’ll be able to improve the behaviour and credentials of the companies we hold in our funds. This is not just about doing the right thing – alongside the positive impact on society, companies that are well-run and have strong ESG principles have often been shown to have superior risk-adjusted returns.”

Dr Hans-Christoph Hirt, Head of EOS at Federated Hermes, says: “The ongoing pandemic has shown the importance of businesses maintaining strong relations with key stakeholders, including employees, customers and suppliers, as well as governments, and considering the links between underlying sustainability issues. While many companies have faced short-term pressures, it is important now more than ever that they demonstrate a long-term approach to key sustainability issues, including climate change, and exhibit good governance practices to create value. That’s why we focus on material ESG issues in our comprehensive engagement programme with companies around the world. We look forward to working collaboratively with Barclays Wealth and supporting them through global, systematic and effective stewardship on behalf of their clients.”
