Pemberton creates private debt opportunities for wealth and asset managers to meet demand from wider investor pool

Pemberton, a European private credit manager backed by one of Europe’s largest insurers, Legal & General Group PLC, has launched the ‘Pemberton Wealth & Asset Management Solutions’, a new initiative aimed at providing the world’s leading wealth and asset managers, and in turn their clients, with access to some of the best private debt opportunities in Europe.

The firm writes that in the current low yield environment, and where consistent returns, diversification and sustainability are top priorities, private debt has become an increasingly attractive and sought-after product for the wealth and asset management sector.

Michele Baldessarini, a senior member of the Business Development team, will lead the ‘Pemberton Wealth & Asset Management Solutions’ initiative and the effort in responding to varying target returns and risk parameters among managers and their clients. Pemberton will open up all four of its strategies, which focus solely on corporate debt, to provide investors access across the full spectrum of opportunities within the asset class.

With a focus on ESG, Pemberton provides in-depth credit risk analysis, strict screening of assets and detailed tracking of portfolio performance. In 2020, it became a carbon neutral firm and joined the Net Zero Asset Managers Commitment to support the target of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 or sooner. Pemberton also introduced carefully developed ESG-linked margin ratchets to encourage portfolio companies and their owners to become better corporate citizens.

Symon Drake-Brockman, Managing Partner at Pemberton, says: “As one of the first and now largest lenders in European private debt, we are always looking to evolve our offer by listening to our partners around the world about how we can better help in the delivery of their investment objectives.

“Over the past year it has become clear that our approach fits well with the current needs of wealth and asset managers, – all of whom are looking for stable investments which preserve and aim to increase the value of their portfolios over the long term. This opportunity is something they have been actively seeking and ‘Pemberton Wealth & Asset Management Solutions’ is now offering these investors access to our pan-European portfolios, state-of-the-art credit underwriting systems and the wealth of expertise and experience that exists within Pemberton.”

Baldessarini says: “With this new initiative, we are looking to build long-term partnerships with top-tier global wealth and asset managers to provide their institutional and professional clients access to private debt. We firmly believe the asset class offers investors an incredible opportunity to achieve long-term diversified returns in a sustainable way and look forward to welcoming new partners and investors in the near future.”
