An interesting and varied week for ETF launches has just passed. We have commodities, emerging markets and the perennial favourite, ESG, in the mix.
Kevin T Carter of EMQQ finally gave his emerging market ecommerce and internet ETF a sibling, FMQQ, the non-Chinese version that offers exposure to a whole range of other emerging markets. “Innovative companies are growing and going public at a fast rate in other parts of Asia, South America, Africa and Eastern Europe,” says Carter.
VanEck was busy launching a new economy with added ESG China ETF, plus an ETF based on the strategic and rare earth metals. The firm writes that whether electric cars, wind turbines, satellite components, microchips or LCD televisions, all modern technologies are inconceivable without strategic metals, which include rare earths.
The US fund giant Nuveen returned to semi-transparent active ETFs with the launch of NUGO, a growth opportunities ETF, actively managed by Karen Hiatt, CFA and an ESG ETF.
Finally, Janus Henderson has announced it has filed to launch an ETF based on BBB CLOs in the US – predicted to be the first in this sector, the firm says it will provide investors with additional options to gain exposure in this highly specialised and traditionally hard-to-access asset class.
