Welcome to the 2023 ETF Express Global Outlook, in association with Qontigo’s STOXX index business, which garners the views of global ETF investors on likely trends for the coming year.

2022 was a year many would like to forget but as Axel Lomholt, Chief Product Officer, STOXX and DAX Indices, at Qontigo, writes in his piece in the report: “ETFs have maintained their popularity in 2022 despite the challenging market conditions.

“As we have witnessed before, investors prioritise ‘safe products’ during uncertainty. We saw the same pattern during the global financial crisis,” he says. “ETFs tend to ‘do their job’ well in all market conditions, which investors appreciate.”

Read our investors’ views on asset growth, trends, distribution, new structures and likely new trends emerging over 2023 in the ETF ecosphere. Our hardworking panel takes a look at semi-transparent ETF structures; mutual fund to ETF conversions; ESG and ETPs based on cryptocurrencies – on which subject we have a particularly pithy comment from Ben Seager-Scott, Head of Multi-Asset Funds, Evelyn Partners.
