Here’s a recap of European ETF action between 25 May and 29 May, from our data partners, Trackinsight, highlighting how capital moved and performance varied across asset classes, regions, and themes.
According to data by Trackinsight, European-listed Equity ETFs attracted €3.91 billion during the week, narrowly ahead of Fixed Income ETFs, which gathered €3.76 billion. Commodity ETFs recorded inflows of €89.0 million, while Currency ETFs added €0.3 million.
Cryptocurrency ETFs registered outflows of €29.5 million, and Multi-Asset ETFs recorded net outflows of €79.4 million. Volatility ETFs were unchanged over the period.
Sector Equity ETF Flows: Technology Leads While Energy Sees Largest Outflow
Information Technology ETFs recorded the largest sector inflow, attracting €416.2 million during the week. Health Care gathered €63.6 million, while Consumer Discretionary added €29.1 million. Utilities attracted €14.1 million, and Communication Services recorded inflows of €0.4 million.
Energy ETFs registered the largest sector outflow at €720.1 million. Financials declined by €357.5 million, while Real Estate lost €169.8 million. Materials recorded outflows of €52.5 million, and Industrials declined by €29.3 million. Consumer Staples ETFs fell by €4.6 million.
Sector Equity ETF Performance: Technology and Materials Lead Gains
Information Technology delivered the strongest sector performance, rising 4.33% during the week. Materials advanced 4.05%, while Industrials gained 3.55%.
Consumer Discretionary rose 1.55%, and Financials added 0.96%. Real Estate finished higher by 0.45%.
Health Care declined 0.44%, while Communication Services fell 0.69%. Utilities lost 2.15%, Consumer Staples declined 2.25%, and Energy recorded the weakest sector performance with a decline of 5.30%.
Geographic Equity ETF Flows: World and US Exposures Dominate Allocations
World equity ETFs attracted €2.72 billion in inflows, the largest geographic allocation of the week. US-focused products gathered €1.42 billion, while Developed Markets exposures added €496.3 million.
South Korea ETFs attracted €143.1 million during the period.
On the negative side, Eurozone ETFs recorded outflows of €502.3 million. Switzerland lost €368.9 million, while Sweden declined by €217.3 million.
Japan recorded outflows of €152.6 million, and India declined by €125.3 million. UK, Asia Pacific, and Emerging Markets exposures also finished the week in negative territory.
Geographic Equity ETF Performance: South Korea and Taiwan Lead
South Korea recorded the strongest performance among the highlighted geographic exposures, advancing 8.47% during the week. Taiwan gained 7.13%, while Developed Asia Pacific rose 4.72%.
Greece advanced 4.51%, Emerging Markets Asia gained 3.97%, and East Asia rose 3.60%.
Philippines declined 3.78%, while Turkey fell 3.57%.
Thematic Equity ETF Flows: Space & Deep Sea Leads Inflows
Space & Deep Sea ETFs attracted €351.6 million, the largest thematic inflow of the week. Disruptive Technology gathered €141.6 million, while Smart City strategies added €95.5 million.
Robotics & Automation attracted €69.4 million, Strategic Metals gathered €65.9 million, and China Digitalization added €63.8 million. Cybersecurity ETFs attracted €52.7 million during the period.
Net Zero 2050 recorded the largest thematic outflow at €283.7 million. Global Infrastructure declined by €81.2 million.
Thematic Equity Performance: Solar Energy Posts Strongest Gain
Solar Energy delivered the strongest thematic performance of the week, advancing 11.41%. BioTech & Genomics gained 8.61%, while Cloud Computing rose 8.28%.
Future Mobility advanced 6.97%, Artificial Intelligence & Big Data gained 6.57%, and Space & Deep Sea rose 6.26%.
5G added 5.45%, Inclusion & Diversity gained 5.43%, Blockchain advanced 5.39%, and Travel Technology & Services rose 5.19%.
Europe Defense gained 4.86%, Global Defense advanced 4.52%, Next Generation Internet rose 4.35%, and Cybersecurity added 4.29%.
Cryptocurrency declined 4.97%, while North America Energy Infrastructure fell 4.65%. Emerging Markets Awakening lost 4.40%, and Healthcare Technology & Innovation declined 3.69%.
Fixed Income ETF Flows: Corporate Investment Grade Leads
Corporate Investment Grade ETFs attracted €1.78 billion during the week, the largest allocation within fixed income categories.
Aggregate Investment Grade products gathered €847.2 million, while Government Investment Grade ETFs added €303.7 million.
Corporate High Yield attracted €252.1 million, and Government Aggregate products gathered €248.7 million.
Commodity ETP Flows: Multi Commodities Attracts Inflows
Multi Commodities ETPs attracted €103.6 million during the week.
Gold ETPs recorded outflows of €49.9 million, while Agriculture products declined by €23.3 million.
Cryptocurrency ETP Flows: Hyperliquid and Near Record Inflows
Hyperliquid products attracted €9.6 million in inflows, while Near ETPs added €6.6 million.
Bitcoin ETPs recorded outflows of €21.3 million, and Ether products declined by €8.6 million.
