The European Investor Exchange extends trading hours

RELATED TOPICS

The European Investor Exchange is extending its trading hours to 17 hours a day (6 a.m. to 11 p.m. CET), spanning thousands of equities and hundreds of ETFs.

Key highlights of the extended trading hours listed by the exchange include:

Instant response to global headlines: Market-moving geopolitical and economic news doesn’t wait for the market to open. Starting at 6 a.m., retail investors can trade on major overnight developments as they happen.

Seamless overlap with Asian trading: A 6 a.m. open captures the peak trading window in Asia (for context, the Tokyo Stock Exchange closes at 7:30 a.m. in winter).

Early-morning demand: 1 in 10 trades on the European Investor Exchange already takes place before 9 a.m., giving investors a head start on early-market momentum.

Overnight Return Puzzle: A study by Bondarenko and Muravyev on the phenomenon of the “Overnight Return Puzzle” shows that the period between 5:30 and 9:30 CET historically accounts for the entire average US market return.

Global leadership position among stock exchanges: The European Investor Exchange now offers the earliest market open in Europe, surpassing the trading hours of major stock exchanges worldwide.

No FX fees on international stocks: Investors can trade thousands of domestic and international equities. This allows investors to trade leading companies from US, UK, Canada, Japan and many other countries directly in Euro without the need to convert into a foreign currency.

Clients can trade as usual and at no extra cost on the European Investor Exchange during the extended opening hours: With PRIME+, Scalable clients trade for EUR0 fees on orders above EUR250 (otherwise EUR0.99 per trade). The times for order creation and deletion remain unchanged (weekdays 5:30 a.m. to 2:30 a.m.). Real-time prices are provided free of charge.

The European Investor Exchange is operated by Scalable Capital jointly with Börse Hannover (Hanover Stock Exchange) and is specifically tailored to European retail investors. The exchange writes that it offers retail investors in Europe transparent and reliable exchange trading.

“Exchange oversight and trading supervision create transparency, equal opportunities, and fairness. The integration of market makers for reliable liquidity, price quotation according to reference markets in euros (without additional foreign currency costs), and the multilateral matching of client orders inside the spread (“Inside Match”) ensure best execution at all times.”
