A mast year for ETFs

A mast year has hit this season of mists and mellow fruitfulness, although the weather is so erratic these days that the mists and the mellow are long gone, interrupted by extreme heat, cold or tropical rain, all within one day.

Whatever the weather, ETFs appear to be having a mast year, with a significant increase in assets and numbers of products. On the site this week, we bring you the end August ETF figures from BlackRock, Amundi and even digital trading platform, Tradeweb, which has reported record volumes on its European ETF platforms.

BlackRock reports that USD171.4 billion was added to global ETPs in August – slightly down from July but comfortably the second-biggest inflow month of 2025 so far, according to the firm.

Part of that growth comes from new, active products and Gill Wadsworth took a deep dive into that most fashionable of sectors in active ETFs, CLO ETFs, for us this week. Wadsworth reports that within two years of the launch of the first CLO ETF, the total assets under management within the ETF market had increased tenfold to USD30 billion.

You can read her piece here to find out what’s the appeal for both issuers and investors.

Take a look at our ETF launches column, brought to you courtesy of STOXX, and in which this week our Global launches feature August’s ETF launches from Down Under, from the Australian Securities Exchange, a feature we will bring you every month from now on.
