And we are back and September is booming with new ETF launches. Bloomberg Intelligence’s Eric Balchunas has reported that, year to date, ETFs have cracked USD800 billion in flows, which is a breathtaking USD5 billion a day pace putting them on target to hit about USD1.2 trillion this year, a new record.
The ETF Express team is just leaving Japan having hosted our inaugural Japanese awards, held at the Tokyo Stock Exchange. It is 30 years since ETFs were launched in Japan and the industry here is vibrant and innovative with record breaking asset flows. Take a little look at the event here.
Those asset flows have been boosted by the NISA savings plan and Gill Wadsworth reported this week on the Broadridge review of the investment management industry which focused on the effect such schemes, largely based on ETFs, are having on asset flows.
Nabeel Ansari, Senior Director of Global Growth Solutions at Broadridge, says: “Retail assets are propelled by powerful tailwinds [including] shifting investor demographics, the rise of digital distribution platforms, and managers innovating products tailored to this segment.”
Reflecting the trend to retail, ETFs are positioned for outsized growth, increasingly outpacing traditional vehicles such as mutual funds and segregated accounts, Broadridge says.
