Celebrating all the ETF content

This week we have brought you a great deal of new ETF content, with not the slightest whisper of AI.

First up we have Rocco Pendola addressing the subject of fears of structural risk in ETFs as the industry grows ever larger. Pendola writes that growth attracts more growth, but it’s also putting pressure on the infrastructure that keeps the ETF ecosystem running.

“At times you are playing a bit of catch-up to get the systems that support the ecosystem caught up to support innovation or complexity at scale,” says Jeff Sardinha, head of ETF Solutions in the Americas for State Street. “Speed and competition are the biggest gaps.”

Meanwhile, Steve Plump, CEO and president of RBB Fund, who also addressed this very subject in an In My Opinion column at the beginning of this year.

Says that that smaller issuers can often feel that pressure. “It’s hard to secure a lead market maker, especially if you’re on the outside looking in,” he says. “Lots of new advisers and products are chasing a finite supply.”

Global digital assets are having a tough time, at the moment, experiencing a decidedly chilly patch, if not the full crypto winter. We bring you our May round up of digital ETP activity, brought to you by Trackinsight and CoinDesk, with Joshua de Vos, Research Lead, CoinDesk, writing that May 2026 ended two consecutive months of net inflows, with global crypto ETP flows swinging back to heavy redemptions.

The investment world is enjoying a period full of innovation with a strong IPO pipeline. Richard Flax, Chief Investment Officer at Moneyfarm, writes in this week’s In My Opinion that with the SpaceX Initial Public Offering (IPO) due to price on June 12th, and Anthropic and OpenAI waiting in the wings, his team wanted to dig into the implications for their portfolios, noting that different index providers have followed different approaches.

And more innovation lies in the rise of the autocallable ETF and we have taken on exactly that subject in our latest Off the Record podcast with Timo Pfeiffer of Solactive explaining how they work. ETFs are no longer just about beta – they’ve become a delivery mechanism for structured payoffs, Pfeiffer says.

Some of these subjects will be discussed in my two ETF panels at Fund Forum at the end of the month.

Do come and find us at Fund Forum. The agenda is here and I can offer you a discount for tickets, using this link.
