It has been quite the week in the UK as four firms finally made it through the regulatory hurdles to launch crypto ETPs that are available to the UK retail investor. First off the block was WisdomTree, followed by 21Shares, BlackRock and Bitwise. These products are listed in our global launches column.
The latest news reveals that crypto ETP trading volumes are up with Russell Barlow, CEO of 21Shares, reporting that on the first day that such products were available, the firm saw daily trading volumes on the London Stock Exchange approximately three times greater – around USD10.6 million – than the previous highs recorded in October.
Staying in Europe, we spoke to Avantis Investors’ Chief Investment Strategist Phil McInnis and Head of EMEA Richard Adams this week on the firm’s expansion into Europe with three UCITS ETFs launched in the UK and Germany last year that have raised USD1 billion. Adams says: “We are now…seeing something exciting in Germany with adoption by a younger demographic and we think we have a big role to play there.”
This is a story that will run and run as we increasingly hear that globally ETFs are playing a major part in encouraging a different demographic to save and invest.
