New tech impacts all sectors

ETF Express newsletter 12.11.21

It’s been quite the week for stories that have technology development at their hearts. GHCO’s Stefan Kaba-Ferreiro talked us through how the firm provides liquidity and market making for bitcoin and other cryptocurrency funds, specifically Melanion Capital’s BTC Equities Universe UCITS, the first thematic UCITS bitcoin ETF in Europe.

He explained that having put in the wallet address and pressed send, he can track the transaction on his browser, watching millions moving through the blockchain – a process he described as ‘like something in a sci fi movie’.

Meanwhile, developments in technology also loom over at Fischer Gaming, whose Aaron Fischer, co-founder of the Fischer Sports Betting and iGaming UCITS ETF Fischer Gaming, talked us through huge developments in his sector. The arrival of in-game betting due to improvements in technology allows sports fans to change their convictions during a match or a game.

Key drivers for sports betting and iGaming are pent up demand and regulatory change globally, Fischer say.

Exposure to all things new, both short and long, is available now with Tuttle Capital’s cheeky, not to say sarky, launch this week of The Tuttle Capital Short Innovation ETF (Nasdaq: SARK) which attempts to achieve the inverse (-1x) of the return of the ARK Innovation ETF (NYSE Arca: ARKK) for a single day. ARK, famously successful for its active management in disruptive industries, is apparently causing a little concern these days.

“Many investors with whom we speak, including financial advisers, are cautious on current valuations for unprofitable innovative companies,” says Matthew Tuttle, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer of Tuttle. “Whether you believe that the current bull thesis for transformational industries is stretched, or you are looking to provide protection to an existing portfolio of high-growth stocks, SARK is a potentially attractive opportunity worth exploring.”

More data and analytic news comes from big xyt this week, which has partnered with ETFbook, an ETF information and analytics platform, to provide daily fund data for their Liquidity Cockpit for ETFs solution. We have an interview with big xyt’s CEO and founder Robin Moss coming up next week.
