Our stories this week are dominated by cryptocurrencies, with BNY Mellon’s Ben Slavin putting perspective on the SEC’s Chairman Gensler’s comments on the likely shape of the long-awaited US crypto ETP, tech specialists Truss Edge announcing that they are joining the digital party, and ETC, the firm behind the BTCE bitcoin ETP, announcing it is to launch Bitcoin ETN Futures, created and launched by Eurex, and based on ETC Group’s BTCetc.
Chairman Gensler hinted that any crypto ETP to be regulated within the US might be based on the futures version of a cryptocurrency which has drawn attention on the futures iteration of cryptos as offered by the CME. This new bitcoin futures product on Eurex can only add fuel to those flames – as if they needed encouraging at all.
There has been other news this week – launches are back up again, and pleasingly not just in the crypto space, but also including that other perennial favourite of 2021 – all things green and sustainable.
On that note, I will be moderating a number of sessions at the digital Responsible Asset Owners Symposium this year, on 5th October and am happy to be able to offer ETF Express readers a discounted ticket. Please use this code when booking: BCVIP25.
Certainly, equities are back in fashion in the ETF world, having seen fixed income dominate over last year. Amundi reports that equities dominated global inflows over August, with World and North America continuing to be the most popular regional allocations. In the US, Dimensional Fund Advisors, whose conversion of mutual funds to ETFs has accelerated them into becoming one of the largest active ETF issuers, with a current total of nine listed equity ETFs and more than USD40 billion in combined ETF assets under management, launched two new equity ETFs. “Today’s listing further demonstrates our commitment to providing the financial professionals we work with a full suite of ETFs that complement our mutual fund and expanded separately managed accounts offerings,” says Dimensional Co-CEO and Chief Investment Officer Gerard O’Reilly.
