The rise of the ESG ETF was the big trend over 2020, particularly in Europe, and one that is continuing into 2021.
We see it across the board: in new listings, such as iClima’s innovative approach detailed this week with our interview with Gabriela Herculano; in new fintech solutions such as Minerva’s pooled fund stewardship service, as explained by Sarah Wilson and in new research from Cerulli Associates and Bloomberg Intelligence.
Bloomberg Intelligence’s report found that ESG ETFs recorded net inflows of USD89 billion last year – almost three times more than the USD31 billion recorded in 2019, and 10 times the USD9 billion in 2018. While Cerulli has revealed that ESG demands are leading to new partnerships between index providers and asset managers.
Other stories this week include big news from HANetf on their hiring of DWS’s Manooj Mistry as COO, reflecting the extraordinary and rapid growth of the firm, with assets shooting over USD2 billion, largely dominated by bitcoin and marijuana.
We also have Sean Tuffy of Citi commenting on that review of the funds’ regime in the UK from HM Treasury which included a proposal that the UK becomes an ETF fund hub.
The big news from ETF Express this week is the eleventh outing of our popular European ETF awards, compiled with the aid of Bloomberg. The digital event saw Gina Miller, campaigner and wealth manager at SCM Direct, and a passionate believer in ETFs, making a keynote presentation.
Go to our website to see who won in which categories in a year which was dominated by early volatility and all the unprecedented challenges of the Covid pandemic.
Many congratulations to all our winners.
